Saturday evening we stopped by Jesse Cross’s place and picked up some rootstock — 25 M.26 for apples and 10 Mazzard cherries. I’m excited to get grafting this week. Still not sure where we’ll put all these, but I’m sure we’ll figure it out...

Sunday morning I had some help from my brother in law Joe, who requested a “slip a disc” kind of job. So we tucked into the collection of big oak logs in the meadow, which need to be moved or bucked before we get moving on the conversion of that area to garden space. We made a surprising amount of progress, and no discs were slipped.

I also pruned our huge apricot tree. This one has some serious fungal damage — what seem to be old turkey tails are growing out of the trunk — so I went extremely aggressive and took out some really large branches. It looks pretty sorry after I finished with it, so I’m hoping I didn’t cause more damage than it can recover from.
